Running Gait Analysis

It is estimated that the incidence of running injuries is around 37 to 56% of the running population. The frequent causes of running injuries are training errors and re-occurrence of previous injuries. Other factors include:

  • running shoes
  • biomechanical abnormalities
  • anthropometric abnormalities

At MARRC we provide a deep analysis of the running technique for the recreational or elite runner interested in a more in-depth investigation of their biomechanical characteristics. An understanding of an individual’s running technique can be used to identify the cause of an injury. Our analysis can also help you identify appropriate running shoes for your biomechanics profile.

During the test you will be submitted to several trials at a self selected speed. 3D Motion capture data will be collected simultaneously with ground reaction force data. The data is processed and an analysis of the hip, knee and ankle angles during the different phases of the running cycle will be provided, along with vertical and horizontal ground reaction forces.

Following the assessment you will receive a comprehensive report of your running gait analysis, on CD. This report will also include dynamic skeletal images and joint angles graphs. The report will give an indication of any biomechanical abnormalities and may offer advice on running shoe type.
